Swimming & Diving Competes in Spain January 14, 2003
SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN -- Senior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) set a new meet and American University long course record as the AU swimming and diving team competed at the XX Torneo Internacional De Navidad over the holiday break for the fifth time in the program's history. Liscinsky scorched the competition in the 200-meter freestyle at 1:52.01, setting a new meet record as well as an AU long course record in the event. He also nabbed first in the 200-meter IM in 2:13.39. Liscinsky was third in the 100-meter backstroke and seventh in the 50-meter breaststroke as well. Erwan Jeffroy (Mareil-Marly, France/Lycee Jeanne D'Albret) grabbed first in the 400-meter freestyle, setting a personal record in the process. Jeffroy, who finished the 400-meters in 4:13.23, also took third in the 200-meter freestyle in 1:58.73.
Junior Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School of London) was third in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:16.02. She was also seventh in the 100-meter freestyle (1:02.35) and 11th in the 50-meter freestyle (28.93). Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) registered a pair of third place finishes in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.68) and 200-meter breaststroke (2:27.00). He was also fifth in the 50-meter breaststroke (30.15). Stephen Maher (Stuart, Fla./Lincoln) and Mike Lawson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) eached had a pair of seventh place finishes and a single fifth-place finish, respectively. Maher was fifth in the 100-meter freestyle in 54.69 while Lawson took fifth in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:22.75. Kia Kilpinen (Stockholm, Sweden/ASO Gymnasium) was fifth in the 50-meter butterfy (31.00) and seventh in the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.52). Estebe Salgado (San Sebastian, Spain/I.E.S. Usandizaga) returned to his hometown to cinch eighth in the 200-meter freestyle (2:04.44) and ninth in the 50-meter butterfly (27.81). He was also tenth in the 100-meter freestyle (55.64). Elizabeth West (Brentwood, Tenn./University School of Nashville) was tenth in the 100-meter butterfly (1:10.71) and 14th in the 50-meter butterfly (32.46). The team accompanied Head Coach Mark Davin to Paris, France to see the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph, the Louvre and Notre Dame de Paris.
