Swimming & Diving Falls to Army
November 8, 2002 | Results WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Both the American University men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to Army Friday afternoon in the first Patriot League bout of the year for the Eagles. The men fell by a 157-141 margin while the women lost, 171-129. The women swept the top three spots in the 200 yard IM as Jessica Lidstrom was first in 2:13.50 followed by Christina Huang (2:16.07) and Elizabeth West (2:16.24). Lidstrom also took first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:56.94 and in the 100 yard freestyle in 54.04. West took first in the 200 yard fly with a clocking of 2:10.64. Mark Liscinsky continue his hot streak, capturing the 100 yard back in 51.07 and the 200 yard backstroke in 1:50.83. He registered his third win in the 200 IM in 1:51.04 as Mike Lawson was second in the same event in 1:58.21. Ethan Bassett captured first in the 1000 yard freestyle in 9:41.31, crushing the second place finisher by almost 11 seconds. He was also first in the 500 yard freestyle while junior Erwan Jeffroy was second Jeffory was first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:45.26. Kia Kilpinen was the top finisher in the 50 yard free in 25.57 while Maria Ortiz was first in the 200 yard breastroke in 2:31.45. Kilpinen went on to capture the 100 yard butterfly in 59.83 with West nabbing second in the event in 1:01.08. Elizabeth Bresnahan-McRae was another double winner for American, clinching first in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. In the 100, she finished in 1:01.64 while grabbing the 200 in 2:10.35. Dominick Szabo topped all contenders in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 56.27 showing and won the 200 yard breastroke in 2:03.96. Stephen Maher was another AU winner with a 52.91 first-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly. In the relays, AU took second (Kilpinen, Bresnahan-McRae, Huang and Chelsea Oudin) and fourth (Cassie Cullen, Lindsay Metcalfe, Kim Nichols and Jaimie Lambert) in the women's 400 yard freestyle. The American quadron of Bassett, Estebe Salgado, Tim Miller and Jeffroy, were second in the men's 400 yard freestyle. Both the men's and women's 200 yard medley relay squads were second as well. Both American's Sara Barger and Adam Schryver took third in their respective diving events. Barger finished with 195.30 points in the 3-meter diving while Schryver totaled 176.70 points in the 1-meter competition. The Eagles will take on Bucknell and Navy on November 16 in Lewisburg, Pa.
