Bassett, Liscinsky tally four wins on day for Eagles

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Junior Ethan Bassett and senior Mark Liscinsky both registered four wins to lead the American University men's swimming and diving team to a 166-133 victory over Bucknell Saturday. The women's team competed at the same meet, losing to Bucknell 176-124 and to Navy, 210-90.

For the women, senior Elizabeth West was the sole first-place finisher as she claimed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.01 while Jessica Lidstrom, Kia Kilpinen and Christina Huang were solid finishers for American.

Bassett, Liscinsky, freshman Kyle Taylor and sophomore Erwan Jeffroy helped the Eagles by capturing the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.37. Bucknell's foursome touched down 51 seconds later for second. AU's 200-yard medley relay of Daniel Sinetar, Dominick Szabo, Estebe Salgado and Stephen Maher nabbed first in 1:35.49. The men's squad also swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle.

Bassett captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.73, the 200-yard breastroke in 2:05.45 and the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:35.24. He was also a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team that came in at 3:15.37.

Liscinsky was a key performer for the Eagles, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 21.30 while winning the 100-yard backstroke in 51.05. Liscinsky defeated his next opponent in the 100-yard butterfly by almost 2.5 seconds with a clocking of 51.16. He was also the leadoff on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished first.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Szabo claimed first in 1:42.87 while also blazing the field in the 200-yard individual medley in over 10 seconds in 1:52.49. Maher, another triple winner, took first in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:58.21 and in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.22. He was also second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.27.

Jeffroy, a junior from France, grabbed the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.85 and in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.33. He was also third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.32.

Adam Schryver was second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events while Seth Bell took fifth in both events. in the 1-meter diving, Schryver totaled 217.25 points while Bell had 128.35. The second-place taker had 223.10 points in the 3-meter contest and Bell scored 127.80.

Lidstrom was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.90 and in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.95. Huang was solid in third-place in both the 1,000-yard free (10:47.07) and in the 200-yard IM (2:13.36). The freshman grabbed another third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in 3:15.73. She was also a member of the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:44.77). Lidstrom, West and Elizabeth Bresnahan-McRae were also members of that squad.

Bresnahan-McRae was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.12 ) and in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.68). Senior Maria Ortiz nabbed second in the 200-yard breast in 2:27.37 and Kilpinen claimed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.79. Kilpinen was also third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.31).

Also placing well for AU was Sinetar, who was second to Liscinsky in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.34. Salgado notched second to Maher in the 200-yard fly and third in the 100-yard free in 48.11. Mike Lawson picked up second in the 200-yard backstroke and third-place finish in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM.

AU returns to action on Dec. 6-8 when it competes in the Princeton Invitational.
