AU's Bassett Secures PL Male Swimmer of the Week Honor
Junior leads Eagles with four wins over Bucknell

Junior Ethan Bassett was a key performer for AU this weekend.

WASHINGTON -- American University junior Ethan Bassett was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week after capturing four events in a 166-133 win over Bucknell this past weekend.

Bassett, a 2001 All-Patriot League perfomer, grabbed first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.73 and then took first in the 200-yard breastroke in 2:05.45. He also claimed the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:35.24. He then joined senior Mark Liscinsky, junior Erwan Jeffroy and freshman Kyle Taylor en route to first-place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.37.

AU returns to action on Dec. 6-8 when it competes in the Princeton Invitational.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, men’s soccer, women's soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
