Capture Six Events in Day 2 of PL Championships February 21, 2003 | Results
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Continuing the torrid pace of record-breaking at Bucknell University's newly opened Arthur D. Kinney Natatorium, the American University men's swimming and diving team set new pool, league and meet records in the second day of the Patriot League Championships. Sliding back one slot to third with one day left, the men have 406.50 points behind first-place Bucknell (451) and second-place Lehigh (416.50). Army (354), Colgate (250), Lafayette (228) and Holy Cross (142) complete the standings. The American women held onto sixth place with 206.50 points as the Bison have positioned themselves to win in their home facility with 558.50 points, well ahead of second-place Navy with 388 points. Lehigh is third with 306 points while Army holds onto fifth with 262. Holy Cross (135) and Lafayette (95) are seventh and eighth, respectively. Senior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scorched the competition and reset a 12-year old meet record and a new pool record in the 200 freestyle with a 1:36.75 clocking. AU junior Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) defended his 400 individual medley title in a time of 3:57.82, setting a new pool record in the process. American junior Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) impressed in the 100 breaststroke with a meet and pool record record 54.89 for first place. Szabo also holds the league record of 54.00. Rounding out the final individual gold medal winners was senior Mike Lawson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown), who earned the top spot in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall at 50.95. The Eagles were also strong in relays, picking up a pair of first-place finishes in the second day. Lawson, Szabo and Liscinsky teamed up with senior Stephen Maher (Stuart, Fla./Lincoln) to set new league, meet and pool records in the 200 medley relay in 1:31.83. The second gold medal finish was in the men's 800 freestyle relay where junior Erwan Jeffroy (Mareil-Marly, France/Lycee Jeanne D'Albret), freshman Estebe Salgado (San Sebastian, Spain/I.E.S. Usandizaga), Maher and Bassett cruised to a meet and pool record of 6:46.58. Junior Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London) continues to lead the American women, taking third in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.27, just .16 seconds off the first-place finisher. Other top finishes for American included Jeffroy's third-place finish in the 400 IM in 4:00.25 and Maher's third-place showing in the 100 butterfly in 51.00. Salgado also nabbed fourth in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:42.45. Freshman Christina Huang (Hubei Province, China/Wuhan) earned fourth place in the 400 IM in 4:33.42, and senior Elizabeth Bresnahan-McRae (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) was fifth in the 100 backstroke in 59.35. Freshman Chelsea Oudin (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Senior High) took fifth in the 100 butterfly in 58.71. Sophomore Daniel Sinetar (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) garnered seventh in the 100 backstroke in 52.87.
