Liscinsky and Szabo Heading to NCAA Championships
Two Eagles will each compete in three events

WASHINGTON -- American University will have two participants at the Men's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships to be held at the University of Texas on Mar. 27-29.

Senior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and junior Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) will each compete in three events during their inaugural trip.

"They've had a good season and we're really excited to see them against the best in the country," said AU head coach Mark Davin.

Szabo made the "A" qualifying time standard in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Princeton Invitational in December with a Patriot League record time of 54.14. It was an 11-year-old mark that Szabo later reset at the Patriot League Championships with a 54.00 that seats him 12th nationally. He is also seeded 32nd in the 200 breaststroke and 49th in the 200 individual medley.

Liscinsky, who is a two-time Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Meet, is seeded 15th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.20, which he set at the Patriot League Championships. He is also seeded 24th in the 200 freestyle and 29th in the 200 backstroke.

Liscinsky and Szabo will be joined by junior Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) at the U.S. Swimming National Championships in April.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league championships in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
