Takes 13th in 200 Breaststroke at NCAAs March 29, 2003 | Results
AUSTIN, Texas -- In his inaugural trip to the NCAA National Championships, American University junior Dom Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) claimed All-American status and set three new personal records and a pair of Patriot League and program records as well. Szabo, who was joined by senior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) at the championships, took 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke final in 1:57.95 in his third of three races this weekend at the University of Texas. Setting new Patriot League and school records, he won the second preliminary heat in 1:57.58 to advance to the consolation round. On Friday night, Szabo became the 18th AU swimming All-American when he came in eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 53.77, setting Patriot League and school records in the process. Szabo also swam in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday, setting a personal best of 1:49.08. Liscinsky took 18th in Friday's 200 IM in 1:47.55 - second only to his career best - and was 32nd in the 200-yard freestyle. On Saturday, he also finished the 200-yard backstroke preliminary round in 1:48.97. Szabo will be joined by junior Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) to compete in the U.S. National Championships. American finished with 15 teams points and ranked 28th out of 40 teams.
