Bassett
and Szabo Lead Eagles to First Home Victory of the Season Jan. 24, 2004 - Results
WASHINGTON – Senior Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) led the AU men’s swimming and diving team to victory as he took home three victories over Lehigh, in addition to breaking the Reeves Aquatic Center’s pool record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.38. Bassett also took home victories in the 200 individual medley (1:56.24) and the 1650 freestyle, finishing with a time of 15:50.90, over a minute faster than the second place finisher. The men’s swimming and diving team defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 173-11 taking both first and second place in seven events and sweeping the top three spots in the 200 butterfly. Despite sweeping the 200 IM, the women’s team fell 166-112. Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) also took home three individual first place victories for the Eagles in the 100 breast (58.47), 50 free (21.41) and the 100 free (46.82), while Erwan Jeffory finished in the top position in both the 500 free (4:41.95) and the 200 free (1:43.62). Kevin Falkenstein (Westmont, N.J./Westmont) finished second in the 100 back (53.36), 200 back (1:56.96) and 100 fly (53.98), while Stephen Maher (Stuart, Fla./Lincoln) finished second in the 200 free (1:43.63), 50 free (21.94) and 100 free (47.78). Valery Fomenko (Jovy-En-Josas, France/EspadonDevelizy) took home first place in the 100 fly (52.75) and second in the 200 fly (1:57.85). On the women’s side, senior captain Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London) swept three events, finishing first in the 200 free (1:56.98), 100 free (54.45) and the 200 IM (2:11.93). Cami Miller (Mission Hills, Kan/Shawnee Mission East/ Kentucky) also finished in the top in three events, finishing over 16 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the 1650 free with a time of 17:31.60. Miller also took home the top spot in the 500 free with a time of 5:10.94, and third in the 100 breast (1:12.24). Also bringing in points on the women’s side, Christing Huang took first in the 200 fly (2:11.37), second in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.15) and 200 IM (2:12.94). Kaitlin Moughty (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) took first in the 100 fly in 59.94, while Chelsea Oudin placed third in the same event with a time of 1:02.17 and third in the 200 IM at 2:21.98. The Eagles will return
to the pool Friday, Feb..6 at 6 p.m. as they take on cross-town rivals,
