BALTIMORE, Md.- Senior captain Ethan Basset (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) opened the season for the AU swimming and diving team with two individual wins, while senior Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) not only won the 200 breaststroke, he broke the pool record. Both the men and the women were defeated by UMBC, 126-102 and 130-81, respectively. Basset, who competed in the US Nationals in April won the 1000 freestyle (9:25.75) and the 500 freestyle (4:35.57). Szabo, the 18th swimming All-American broke the UMBC pool record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.46. This time is the fifth fastest time in AU history. Szabo also took home first place in the 200 Individual Medley (1:53.07) The women were led by senior captain Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London) with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:57.60) and junior transfer Cameron Miller (Mission Hills, Kan/Shawnee Mission East/ Kentucky), who picked up the only other win for the Lady Eagles in the 1000 freestyle (10:31.12). Miller’s swim in the 1000 free is the sixth fastest time in AU history. The Eagles will attempt
to come back from their loss as they swim against Army on November 8,
at 7 p.m.
