Bassett Leads Eagles to First PL Victory
Senior captures three first place finishes at Navy

Dominick Szabo won both the breaststrokes against Navy and Bucknell.

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Senior Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) took home three first place finishes against Bucknell and Navy as he helped the AU men’s swimming and diving team to its first Patriot League victory over Bucknell 174-114. In the same meet, the Eagles fell to Navy 161-133. On the women’s side, the Eagles fell to both Navy and Bucknell, 220-72 and 206-87, respectively.

Senior Dominic Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) took home two first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, finishing almost eight seconds faster than his closest competitor in the 200 breaststroke. Szabo also took home third place in the 100 free with a time of 52.29.

Bassett won both the 200 fly (2:07.38), 800 free (8:19.86) and 400 free (4:03.58). Erwan Jeffory (Mareil-Marly, France/Lycee Jeanne D'Albret) finished second in the 400 free (4:04.83), while teammate Estebe Salgado (San Sebastian, Spain/I.E.S. Usandizaga) rounded out the sweep of the event in a time of 4:11.13. Jeffory also finished 2nd in the 800 free (8:34.94) and 2nd in the 200 IM (2:10.33), while Salgado finished 3rd in the 200 free (1:56.53) and 2nd in the 100 fly with a time of 56:06.

Valery Fomenko (Jovy-En-Josas, France/EspadonDevelizy) also put out a good showing for the men, finishing first in the 100 back (58.34) and second in the 200 back (2:06.93).

On the women’s side the Eagles gathered points by senior Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London) with a first place finish in the 200 free (2:09.03), 2nd in the 100 free (1:00.00) and 3rd in the 50 free with a time of 27.88. Cameron Miller (Mission Hills, Kan/Shawnee Mission East/ Kentucky) finished 2nd in the 800 free (9:05.29) and 3rd in the 200 fly (2:28.88).

The Eagles will next take on the swim at the George Mason Invitational on Nov. 21-22.
