Eagles Drown Howard in Final Dual Meet of the Season
American takes first in every event but one and sweeps 13

Ethan Bassett finished second in the 100 free and first in the 200 IM to help the Eagles drown Howard.

WASHINGTON – The AU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took home first place finishes in every event but one and swept the top three places in 13 events, to drown cross-town rivals Howard, in the last home dual meet of the season.

For the women, senior Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London) took home two first place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.21) and the 50 freestyle (25.29), while Kaitlin Moughty (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) also scored two first place finishes in the 200 IM (2:15.50) and the 100 free (57.00). Lidstrom’s time in the 100 breaststroke places her sixth on the AU all time top-ten list.

Cameron Miller (Mission Hills, Kan/Shawnee Mission East/ Kentucky) took home a first and a second place in the 200 free (1:59.80) and the 100 fly (1:02.07), respectively, while Christina Huang (Hubei Province, China/Wuhan) also finished first in the 500 free (5:24.28) and second in the 200 free (2:00.66). Lori Burkett (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) took home a pair of second places in the 200 IM (2:22.29) and the 100 back (1:05.93) and Lindsay McDavitt (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) finished first in the 100 back (1:02.45) and second in the 100 breast (1:15.37)

On the men’s side, the Eagles dominated with Dominck Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) taking first in both the 100 free (46.34) and the 100 breast (56.56) and Estebe Salgado (San Sebastian, Spain/I.E.S. Usandizaga) finishing in the top spot in both the 200 free (1:45.99) and the 100 fly (53.58). Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished second in the 100 free (48.29) and first in the 200 IM (1:55.68).

Finishing in first in the 100 back (53.56) and second in the 50 free (23.08), Erwan Jeffory (Mareil-Marly, France/Lycee Jeanne D'Albret) pushed the Eagles ahead, while Stephen Brennen (Murraysville, Pa../Franklin Regional) took a pair of second places in the 200 free (1:45.50) and the 100 fly (55.09). Joe Eberhard (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) finished first in the 500 free at 4:58.55, while Steve Maher (Stuart, Fla./Lincoln) took first in the 50 free at 21.68.

The Eagles now look to dominate at the Patriot League Championships, Feb. 26-28.
