WASHINGTON - In just three years of Patriot League competition, American University senior Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) has earned the second highest point total on the Patriot League career swimming and diving point-leaders list, just five points behind Bucknell’s Peter Garvin. Taking home two conference titles in his senior year, Bassett closed out one of the finest swimming careers in school history, ending his eligibility with 14 cumulative conference titles, three league records and Olympic trial cuts in the 200 breaststroke. At the 2004 conference meet, Bassett placed in the top position in the 400 IM and the 200 breaststroke and second in the 500 free. Also joining Bassett on the Patriot League career swimming point-leaders list are fellow seniors Stephen Maher (Stuart, Fla./Lincoln), Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Erwan Jeffory (Mareil-Marly, France/Lycee Jeanne D'Albret), who finished fifth, sixth and eighth-place, respectively. At the conference meet, Maher took home three ninth-place finishes for the Eagles, in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free, while Jeffory garnered a conference record and title in the 500 free, a second-place finish in the 200 free and a fifth-place finish in the 200 backstroke. For the women, senior
Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm,
Sweden/The Swedish School in London) earned a spot in the top-ten, finishing
seventh overall, with 144 points. A three-time All-League selection, Lidstrom
placed second in the 100 free, third in the 200 free and seventh in the
200 IM.
