Ethan Bassett Chosen as Student CAS Commencement Speaker
Senior swimmer to graduate with honors at May 9th ceremony

Ethan Bassett has been chosen as the CAS commencement speaker for the class of 2004.

WASHINGTON - Senior swimmer Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) has been chosen as the student speaker at the American University College of Arts and Science Commencement that will take place in Bender Arena, Sunday, May 9.

Bassett, who was chosen by a panel of students, faculty and staff, will address the entire graduate and undergraduate population of CAS, while graduating with honors in biology.

In his career as an athlete at American, Bassett took home a total of 13 conference titles, in addition to qualifying to compete at the US Olympic Trials, July 10-18 in Long Beach, Calif.

Bassett has also been successful in the classroom, successfully balancing school and athletics. A two-time Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year in swimming, Bassett currently holds a 3.63 cumulative GPA.
