17 on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

WASHINGTON
- The American University men’s and women’s swimming and diving
teams placed 17 athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, with
senior Ethan Bassett (Potomac,
Md./Winston Churchill) leading the pack with a perfect 4.00 grade-point
average in biology.
Bassett, a Dean’s list student, graduated in May and was recognized
at the spring commencement ceremony by the university for his outstanding
performance in both the classroom and the pool with the American University
Student Achievement Award. Currently, he is training for the United States
Olympic Trials that will take place in Long Beach, Calif. in July.
On the women’s side, freshman Lori
Burkett (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) led the Eagles with a 3.94
grade-point average in international business. Burkett performed well
in her freshman campaign, finishing 11th in both the 100 and 200 backstroke
at the championship meet.
To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, athletes must
earn a grade-point average of 3.20 in the spring semester and be awarded
a varsity letter his or her respective sport.
Bassett and Burkett are joined on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
by 15 teammates: Erwan Jeffory

Westfall (Bloomington, Ill./Lake Park), Melissa
Ferrara (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township), Michelle
Risinger (Wilmett, Ill./New Tier), Jessica
Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London), Elizabeth
Lyons (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), Lindsay
McDavitt (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep), Chelsea
Oudin (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) and Cameron
Miller (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee Mission East).
American University,
which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10
women’s sports and nine for men, completed its third year of membership
in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University
has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s
cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s
soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, field hockey and women’s
volleyball, and two regular-season titles in men’s basketball.
