American Wins Both Events at Mason Cross Country Invitational Howard claims dual meet win. Oct. 14, 2000 FAIRFAX, VA - Both the men's and women's cross country teams from American University won their respective races at the 25th Annual Mason Invitational held this morning at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, VA. American's men's team was led by Frank Malpigli who won the 5,000-meter run in 25 minutes, 55.76 seconds (25:55.76). Seven Eagle runners posted top-10 finishes, while Howard University's Michael Zipf was the runner up in 25:59.33. Freshman Rob Caracciolo was George Mason's top finisher with a sixth-place finish in 26:30.78. The men's team from UNC Wilmington placed second, while the host Patriots were fourth. American's Jennifer Baclawski won the women's 3,000 meter run in 18:50.12, as three of her teammates also finished in the top 10. Freshman Dana Early led the Patriots in fifth place in 19:36.17. UNC Wilmington finished in second behind American, with George Mason's women's team in fourth place. In dual meet cross country action Howard men's and women's teams defeated the teams from George Mason. Howard's Zipf won the men's race, while Early took the women's honors for the Patriots, although Howard edged out the Mason women in team competition by just one point. George Mason's cross
