Three More Records Established By American Women
Akbar, Simpson, 4x800 Relay Set New Marks

FAIRFAX, Va. — After a layoff of over a month, American's women's track team returned to action at the Father Diamond Invitational on the campus of George Mason University. The Eagles picked up where they left off, setting three new school records and placing 11 performances on the All-Time Top-10.

In the mile, junior Samia Akbar broke her own school record for the second meet in a row, running 4:59.37. Akbar placed fourth overall in the meet. Freshman Megan Simpson continued to do her part in rewriting the American University record book, establishing a new mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.37. Simpson also moved into second place all-time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.67. In addition, the 4x800 relay team of Akbar, Jen Baclawski, Jessica Daniel and Whitney McNees set a new indoor mark by running 10:14.05.

Baclawski missed her own school record in the 3,000-meter run by only 1.31 seconds, placing fourth in 10:39.98. Daniel placed ninth in the event in 11:27.26 and freshman Siobhan Uniacke moved into tenth place all-time running 11:50.64.

Other performances making the Top-10 include Leah Heinecke Krumhus moving into fourth place all-time in the 800-meter run (2:35.30). McNees is now third all-time in the mile after running 5:26.76. The 4x400 relay of Simpson, Heinecke-Krumhus, Sandra Bozik and Shondrea Horton ran 4:27.63, good for third all-time. Heidi Fishpaw ran 3:16.75 to move into fourth all-time in the 1,000-meter run.

The women’s team return to action on January 19 at the Lehigh Quad. The meet gets underway at 10:00 a.m.
