Women's Track Starts Fast at Charlotte March 16, 2002 | Day One Results | Day Two Results
CHARLOTTE, N.C. The American women's track team began their outdoor season with a trip to UNC-Charlotte over spring break for the 49ers Classic. The Eagles had a successful trip, returning home with two school records and six additions to the All-Time Top-10 list. Samia Akbar was the star of the meet for the Eagles, setting school records in both the 1,500-meters and 800-meters. Akbar was second in the 1,500 in a time of 4:34.81, a personal best of seven seconds. She also ran 2:18.47 in the 800, breaking her own school record by .05 seconds. Also in the 1,500-meters, Whitney McNees moved to third all-time with her time of 4:55.61. Erin Hickey ran a twelve second personal best in the 1,500, moving to sixth all-time with her run of 5:15.21. In other events, Shondrea Horton set a personal best in the 400-meters with her time of 1:06.09 which is third all-time. In the 5,000-meters, freshman Heidi Fishpaw moved to fifth all-time with her run of 19:47.40. The Eagles return to action next weekend at the VCU Rams Invitational. The meet begins Friday at 5:30 p.m.
