O'Brien Wins Mile at VCU Rams Invitational
Seymour 2nd, Malpigli 3rd in 1,500-meters

Junior Sean O'Brien won the mile at the VCU Rams Invitaitonal in the second fastest time in school history.

RICHMOND, Va. — The American men's track team made the trip to nearby Richmond for the VCU Rams Invitational this weekend. The Eagles returned with a number of top perfromances as they look towards the Patriot League Championships in May.

Junior Sean O'Brien won the Mile Invitational at the meet, running 4:06.34 to beat Kevin Doyle of St. Francis by just over a second. O'Brien's time is the second fastest ever at American in the mile behind his own mark of 4:04.47 run at last year's Penn Relays. His time also qualifies him for the IC4A Championships.

In the 1,500-meters, Matt Seymour and Frank Malpigli took second and third respectively (3:57.46 and 3:57.51). Seymour and Malpigli were the first two collegiate runners to cross the finish line. Carlos Hunt finished in eighth place in 4:01.73 and Patrick MacAdie moved to ninth all-time with his 11th place finish (4:02.47).

In the 800-meter Invitational race, Sean Duffy placed fourth with a time of 1:54.49 and Jovens Colas was sixth in 1:55.48. Duffy's time places him fourth all-time in the event. In the open 800-meters, Ed Topolewski ran 1:59.73 in his first attempt ever at the distance.

The Eagles return to action on March 6 at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland.
