Continues Her Quick Start at VCU Rams Invitational March 23, 2002 | Results
RICHMOND, Va. The outdoor track season continued for the American women this weekend at the VCU Rams Invitational. Even though it was a different week, the results were similar for the Eagles, especially Samia Akbar. Akbar set another school record at the meet, running an ECAC qualifying 17:17.53 in the 5,000-meters. Akbar was the first collegiate runner to finish by almost a minute. She finished second overall behind an unattached runner. The record was Akbar's third of the outdoor season. She set new school marks in the 800 and 1,500-meters the previous week. Akbar now holds four outdoor school records, three indoor school records and she was a part of two indoor school record relays. The 4x800-meter relay team established a new American school record in the meet as well. The team ran a time of 10:14.65, topping the old record by over six seconds. Whitney McNees places seventh in the 800-meters in 2:25.30. Her time moves her to third all-time at American. In the women's 3,000-meters, Siobhan Uniacke moved to fifth all-time with her run of 10:58.89. In other events, Marissa Schoenfeld and Sandra Bozik moved to fifth and seventh all-time respectively in the 200-meter dash. The Eagles return to action on March 6 at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland.
