American Women Begin Patriot League Competition
4x800-meter relay sets new school record; Baclawski finishes seventh

Jen Baclawski finished seventh in the 10,000-meters at the Patriot League Championships.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The American women's track and field team began its first-ever Patriot League Championships today at a windy Lehigh University.The women's 4x800-meter relay established a new American University record of 9:52.39.

Whitney McNees ran the leadoff leg for the Eagles, running a 2:26.60. She passed the baton to Leah Heinecke-Krumhus who followed with a split of 2:29.01.

Megan Simpson ran the third leg for American, coming through in a split of 2:29.44. Samia Akbar ran the anchor leg in 2:27.01 as she was by herself the entire way. The team shattered the old school mark by over 20 seconds.

In the women's 10,000-meters, Jen Baclawski ran a tough race, but just missed the scoring spots, placing seventh in the event in 38:47.55. She put herself in the race early, running in the front pack of four runners for the first 5,000-meters. Baclawski fought hard, but was not able to hold the spot and eventually finished in seventh.

Also competing for the Eagles was Leigh Sorkin in the javelin. Sorkin finished 13th in the event, throwing 72' 11 3/4".

The Eagles return to action tomorrow morning with the final day of Patriot League competition. The meet begins at 11:00 a.m.
