O'Brien
Concludes Season at U.S. Outdoor Nationals June 21, 2002 | Results
PALO ALTO, Calif. - American junior Sean O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass./Winnisquam Regional) finished a very successful 2002 outdoor track season by finishing 19th in the 1500-meters at the USA Outdoor Track National Championships. Running in the semifinals, O'Brien ran against an extremely talented field including a number of professional runners. His heat included Olympian Seneca Lassiter who eventually won the national championship. O'Brien's time of 3:50.00 was not fast enough to advance him to the final of the event. O'Brien became only the seventh American athlete to earn All-America honors twice in his career at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also set the Patriot League Indoor record in the mile on his way to the individual title. O'Brien also ran on the 4x800-meter relay squads that captured the Patriot League Indoor and Outdoor Titles. This concludes the season for American's track and field teams. The 2002-03 season begins with the Navy Cross Country Invitational on September 7th.
