Eagles Claim Three First-Place Finishes at Lehigh Quad
Wharton sets 800m record for AU

Zaia Wharton established a new AU record in the 800m at the Lehigh Quad.

BETHLEHEM, Pa.Samia Akbar, Jen Baclawski and Zaia Wharton all captured individual titles at the Lehigh Quad as the AU women's track and field squad finished fourth. Wharton established a new school record in the 800-meters in the process of winning the race.

Wharton won the race by six seconds, running 2-minutes, 20.5 seconds. She broke the old school record held by Megan Simpson by nearly three seconds. Also in the race, Leah-Heinecke Krumhus placed third in 2:27.7, setting a new personal-best time as she is now fourth all-time at AU.

Running her first race since the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Akbar cruised to victory in the mile, winning by over 26 seconds. Running by herself, Akbar crossed the line in 5:01.2, just under two seconds off her own school-record time. Whitney McNees placed third in the race, running 5:28.9

AU's other individual champion was Baclawski in the 5000m. Winning by over 20 seconds, Baclawski ran 18:08.0 to capture the individual title.

In her first collegiate meet, Emily Price broke onto the AU all-time top-10 lists in two events. Price moved to fourth all-time in the 400m, running 1:06.3 and fifth all-time in the 200m in 29.14. Also in the 400m, Catie Poppe ran 1:10.1 to place seventh.

Kaitlyn Lavender also placed for AU at the meet, finishing third in the 3000m in 12:20.1.

American's next meet is Sat. Jan. 25 at the Maryland Invitational held in Landover, Md. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
