AU Runs Well at Maryland Invitational
Ellerhorst sets school record in 400-meters

Andy Ellerhorst set the AU indoor record in the 400-meter dash.

LANDOVER, Md.Andy Ellerhorst rolled to an American University school record in the 400-meters as the men's track and field team competed at the Maryland Invitational held at the Prince George's Sports Complex in Landover, Md. Sean O'Brien captured the mile for the Eagles, leading AU to three of the top-five places.

Running to a seventh place finish, Ellerhorst ran 50.26 seconds to break the old school record by .35 seconds. Freshman Angelo Ajayi also broke the previous record, running 50.58 to move to second all-time at AU.

In the mile, O'Brien edged Casey Batey, an unattached runner, to claim the event in 4:12.23. Matt Seymour placed third, running a personal-best time of 4:13.32, sixth all-time at AU. Sean Duffy was fifth, running 4:15.47.

Phil Gaeta finished second in the 800m, just .17 seconds out of first. Gaeta ran 1:55.24 to move to third all-time at American. In the 3000m, Pat MacAdie finished fourth in 8:30.89, placing him seventh all-time at AU. Carlos Hunt was seventh in the race in 8:43.88.

In the morning meet, Pat Burford led three Eagles in the top-four in the 3000m. Burford won the event in 8:55.89 and was followed by Will Knox in second (8:58.37) and Chad Young in fourth (9:03.10). Michael Edwards placed 10th in the 800m, running 2:03.25.

American's next meet is Sat. Feb. 8 at the George Mason Invitational. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
