Carlstrom
Earns Patriot League Honors for Third Time This Year March 25, 2003
WASHINGTON — After earning Patriot League honors twice in the indoor track and field season, American University freshman Keira Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) was named the first Patriot League Women’s Track Runner of the Week for the outdoor campaign. Carlstrom captured the 1500-meters at the UMBC Big Dawg Invitational last weekend. She won the race in 4:38.45, over five seconds faster than her nearest competitor and 16 seconds faster than the closest collegiate runner. Carlstrom’s time places her second all-time at AU in the event. The indoor 1000m champion and member of the winning 4x800m and distance medley relay teams, Carlstrom was named to the All-Patriot League squad in indoor track and field in February. She also placed fourth in the Patriot League cross country meet to earn All-League accolades. AU track and field returns to action on April 5 at the Maryland Invitational. American University,
which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10
women’s sports and nine for men, is in its second year of membership
in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University
has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s
cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis,
women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and regular-season
titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
