Track Performs Well at UVA April 12, 2003 | Results
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The American University men's track and field team turned in a solid performance at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia on Saturday. The Eagles made five additions to the all-time top-10 lists and Phil Gaeta just missed the NCAA Regional Qualfiying time en route to the second-fastest time at AU in the 800m. Gaeta finished third in a very tight race where the top-three finishers were separated by .06 seconds. Gaeta ran 1:51.46, missing the regional qualifying mark by only .31 seconds. Ed Topolewski improved his personal-best time in the 800m, running 1:59.22 as he is 10th all-time. In the 200m, Andy Ellerhorst was the first Eagle finisher, running his fastest time of the season at 22.01. Chris Buerger moved to eighth all-time with a performance of 23.30 while Greg Vogt is now 10th all-time after running 23.92. Carlos Hunt finished second in the 3000m steeplechase, running 9:31.14. Matt Seymour earned a ninth-place finish in the 1500m, running 3:55.98 with teammate Frank Malpigli finishing 11th in 3:56.67. Will Knox placed fifth in the 5000m in 15:29.03 and Matt Barresi was eighth in 15:49.52. The 4x400m relay team moved to ninth all-time with a performance of 3:28.17. AU's season continues April 24-26 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
