Wharton Sets School Record in 800m
Eagles place six on all-time top-10

Zaia Wharton broke her own school record at Virginia.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Zaia Wharton reset her own school record in the 800-meters and the American University women's track and field team made six additions to the all-time top-10 list at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.

In an extremely competetive race, Wharton was the ninth collegiate finisher, running 2:15.77 to break her old school record by 2.5 seconds. Leah Heinecke-Krumhus broke her own personal record in the event by over two seconds as she ran 2:22.19 to move to fifth all-time.

In the 200m, Emily Price and Catie Poppe both improved on their personal-best times to move to fourth and fifth all-time, respectively. Price ran 27.91 in the meet while Poppe finished in 28.58.

Ashley Futrell moved into 10th all-time in the 1500m, running 5:26.61 and the 4x400m relay squad is now third all-time after running 4:18.60.

After a week off, the track and field teams return to action April 24-26 at the Penn Relays.
