Four Additions to All-Time Top-10 at Morgan State Invitational for AU Track
Gaeta and Wharton claim individual titles

Phil Gaeta ran a personal best time in winning the 800m.

BALTIMORE, Md. — At the Morgan State Invitational, the American University men's and women's track and field squads placed four marks on the all-time top-10 lists while bringing home two first-place finishes. Phil Gaeta won the 800-meters for the men while Zaia Wharton captured the 1500m on the women's side.

Gaeta won the 800m by .20 seconds over Coppin State's Nickie Peters in 1:51.37. His time is an improvement by .09 over his previous personal best and is second all-time at AU. Michael Edwards ran the best time of his career in the event, running 2:00.17.

In the 1500m, Frank Malpigli and Carlos Hunt finished second and third in the event. Malpigli ran 3:59.03 while Hunt crossed the line in 3:59.50. Andy Ellerhorst doubled in the 200m and 400m, running 22.87 in the 200 and 49.43 in the 400. Chris Buerger moved to sixth all-time in the 400m, running 50.51. Greg Vogt also ran in the meet, running 54.67 in the 400m.

Wharton continued her strong outdoor season, winning the 1500m by .62 seconds in 4:42.50. Her time is third-best all-time at AU. Ashley Futrell finished seventh in the race, running 5:30.17.

Also competing for the Eagle women was Leah Heinecke-Krumhus in the 800m, running 2:26.29. Catie Poppe just missed her personal-best time in the 200m, running 28.85 while Katie Bassler ran the fastest time of her career, running 29.61 to move to seventh all-time.

The American University Track and Field team returns to action April 24-26 at the Penn Relays.
