HARRISONBURG, Va. — The American University men's and women's track and field squads competed at the James Madison Invitational as the athletes worked to stay sharp before the NCAA Regional Championships at the end of the month. Carlstrom already was entered in the NCAA Regional Championships by virtue of her Patriot League title in the 1500m. However, at JMU, she improved her time by over two seconds, running 4:29.71 to place eighth in the meet. Carlstrom's time is second all-time at AU. Classmate Zaia Wharton ran in the 800m at the JMU Invitational, crosssing the line in 2:21.38. Two men competed at the invitational for the Eagles, both in the 1500m. Freshman Phil Gaeta, a regional qualifier in the event, placed eighth in 3:51.72. Junior Matt Seymour, a regional qualifier in the 5000m, finished 11th in 3:53.05. A number of Eagles will compete on Monday at the Tuppeny Twilight Meet in Villanova, Pa.
