Men’s Track Seats 16 on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll Four-time All-American O’Brien leads squad June 30, 2003
WASHINGTON
— American University’s men’s track and field squad
had 16 student-athletes named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
for the spring of 2003 as announced today by Patriot League Executive
Director, Carolyn Schlie Femovich.
Junior Matt Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder), a member of the Verizon Academic All-District II Second Team, was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Juniors Frank Malpigli (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and Ed Topolewski (Englewood Cliffs, N.J./Dwight Englewood) also earned a spot on the honor roll. Sophomores on the squad were headlined by Matthew Barresi (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and Danny Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs), both of whom posted 4.00 GPAs in the spring. Patrick MacAdie (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) and Chris Repka (East Windsor, N.J./Highstown) also made the squad. Five members of the freshman class appear on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll with Chris Buerger (Groveland, Mass.), Pat Burford (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), All-American Phillip Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton), Will Knox (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) and Phillip Turner (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) all on the team. American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s basketball. Chartered by an Act of Congress in 1893, American University features students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and more than 160 nations worldwide.
