Carlstrom
Named Patriot League Women's Track Athlete of the Week Jan. 14 , 2004
WASHINGTON Sophomore distance runner Keira Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) was named the Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11, 2004, the Patriot League announced Tuesday. Carlstrom earned her first Indoor Athlete of the Week award this season for her performance in the mile run at the Father Diamond Open Invitational, hosted by George Mason University. Carlstrom finished the race in 4:47.81, setting a school indoor record in the event. She bested the previous mark, set by Samia Akbar in February, 2003, by nearly eight seconds. In the process, Carlstrom improved her personal best time in the mile by more than 10 seconds. Carlstrom is coming off a fall Cross Country season in which she was named PL Runner of the Week two times. She capped the fall season by placing 16th at the NCAA Championship Meet, earning All-America honors. The 16th-place finish was the best finish ever by a Patriot League female runner.
