Eagles Compete at Navy Lidlifter
Freshmen Taylor and Wharton win respective events

Sophomore Zaia Wharton won the 800m at the Navy Lidlifter.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Several AU women's runners competed at the Navy Lidlifter Monday to open up the 2003-04 indoor track season.

Freshman Kelley Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) easily captured first place in the 3000m run, winning by more than 27 seconds, with a time of 10:01.62. Sophomore Whitney McNees (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Regional) finished third with a time of 10:29.37.

Sophomore Zaia Wharton (Elkins, W. Va./Elkins) took home first place in the 800m dash with a time of 2:18.24, besting Navy's Tineisha Davis by .06. Megan Simpson (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Township) finished seventh and Catie Poppe (Reston, Va./Bishop Ireton) 10th in the 800m, respectively.

Meanwhile, freshman Aneaka English (Marietta, Ga./Grady) finished 19th in the 200m and 12th in the 55m dash.
