Gaeta and Duffy Compete at Millrose Games
Duo finishes second and fourth in College Mile

Sophomore Phil Gaeta finished second in the College Mile at the Millrose Games in New York City.

WASHINGTON — Competing in the college mile at this weekend’s prestigious Millrose Games, American University’s Phil Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton) nabbed 2nd place with teammate Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) close behind in fourth.

The race had many lead changes and after a slow half mile in 2:15 the pace picked up rapidly. Gaeta took the lead coming into the final lap, but with 100 meters remaining he was overtaken by Iona All-American Richard Kiplagat, who went on to win in 4:19.64. Gaeta held on to second place in 4:20.09 while Duffy finished fourth in 4:21.35.

Gaeta, a sophomore, has the fastest time in the Patriot League in the 800 (1:53.66) and Duffy has the second-fastest time in the 1000 (2:28.20).

The rest of the Eagles’ men and women compete Feb. 7 at the George Mason Invitational in the last meet before the Patriot League championships.
