Gaeta
and Duffy Compete at Millrose Games Feb. 7, 2004 | Results
WASHINGTON Competing in the college mile at this weekend’s prestigious Millrose Games, American University’s Phil Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton) nabbed 2nd place with teammate Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) close behind in fourth. The race had many lead changes and after a slow half mile in 2:15 the pace picked up rapidly. Gaeta took the lead coming into the final lap, but with 100 meters remaining he was overtaken by Iona All-American Richard Kiplagat, who went on to win in 4:19.64. Gaeta held on to second place in 4:20.09 while Duffy finished fourth in 4:21.35. Gaeta, a sophomore, has the fastest time in the Patriot League in the 800 (1:53.66) and Duffy has the second-fastest time in the 1000 (2:28.20). The rest of the Eagles’ men and women compete Feb. 7 at the George Mason Invitational in the last meet before the Patriot League championships.
