Marc Davis enters his second season at American University as an assistant coach. An Olympian in 1996 and a two-time USATF champion, Davis brings over 15 years of competitive international racing experience to the AU program. Davis, a native of California, won the Kinney/Foot Locker high school national cross country title his senior year. A 1992 graduate of Arizona with a bachelor of science degree in child psychology, Davis won the NCAA 5000m in 1989 and the steeplechase in 1992. Davis moved on to the national level with success, capturing the 1993 USATF steeplechase and winning the gold medal in the steeplechase in 1994 at the Goodwill Games. In 1996, he made the U.S. Olympic Team and reached the finals of the steeplechase at the Centennial Olympics. At the 1998 national championships, Davis changed events and won the 5000m. His personal best time of 8:14.26 in the steeplechase remains the fourth-fastest time ever run by an American, and his 3000m time of 7:38.04 is eighth all-time. Davis currently resides in Reston, Va., with his wife, Michelle.
