Earns Second League Volleyball Player of the Week Nod October 15, 2001
WASHINGTON --Sophomore Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) celebrated her second Patriot League Player of the Week honors this season after posting a .343 hitting percentage with 33 total kills in wins over Georgetown and Navy last week. The 6-3 outside hitter recorded a team-high 16 kills against local foe Georgetown on Oct. 10 and helped the Eagles to a 3-2 victory, marking the first time in the teams last three meetings that the visiting team captured the win. In American volleyballs first-ever televised match on Oct. 12, Kucerkova notched 17 kills and a .529 hitting percentage in the teams 3-0 win over visiting Patriot League foe Navy. The 1,136 spectators who turned out for the match set a new American attendance record and the win extended the Eagles current winning streak to nine matches. American is currently a perfect 7-0 in Patriot League competition and 14-2 overall. The team is also carrying an 11-match home winning streak, dating back to Oct. 14 of last season. Next up for the Eagles are home Patriot League matches against Holy Cross and Army on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at 7:00 p.m. American University
became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1 after competing in
the Colonial Athletic Association since the 1985-86 academic year.
