WASHINGTON --The American womens volleyball team dusted off some cobwebs after a weeks rest to defeat visiting Holy Cross, 3-0, Friday at Bender Arena. After narrowly winning the first game by a 31-29 margin, the Eagles took control and rolled to a 30-15 game two victory and a 30-26 third game score to take the match and keep their winning streak alive at 10-straight. The Eagles improve to a perfect 9-0 in the Patriot League and 15-2 overall. The team also extends its home winning streak to 12 matches. Junior Judit Szekelyhidi (Ujszentivan, Hungary/Szegedian Club) posted 14 kills, five service aces and a .500 hitting percentage to lead American on the attack. Sophomore Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) notched a game-high 18 kills along with a .469 attack percentage and freshman Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) had a break-out match, registering 10 kills, five service aces, five digs and a .438 attack percentage. Holy Cross falls to 2-6 in the Patriot League and 10-9 overall heading into a match at Navy on Saturday. The Eagles remain at home to host the visiting Black Knights of Army on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
