WASHINGTON -- For the second consecutive week, the American volleyball team claimed the Patriot Leagues Player of the Week honors as Judit Szekeylhidi (Ujszentivan, Hungary/Szegedian Club) earned her first league nod of the season. The junior middle blocker led the Eagles to a 2-0 week with league wins at home over Holy Cross and Army, while helping the team improve to a perfect 9-0 in the league and 16-2 overall. Szekelyhidi tallied 14 kills in 20 attempts against the Crusaders en route to a .500 hitting percentage while also registering a career-high five service aces and three digs. Against the Black Knights, she recorded nine kills and three total blocks while helping to extend Americans current winning streak to 11 matches. She finished the week averaging 3.83 kills and 1.0 aces per game along with a .350 hitting percentage. Aside from its current win streak, American is ranked as the No. 7 team in the Northeast Region in the NCAAs latest poll, released on Oct. 17. The team is also carrying a 13-match home winning streak, dating back to Oct. 14, 2000. The Eagles take to the road this week for a non-conference match at nearby Howard on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. and back-to-back league matches at Colgate, on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and at Bucknell, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1 after competing in the Colonial Athletic Association since the 1985-86 academic year. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program, featuring 10 womens sports and nine for men.
