American Volleyball Notches 17th Straight Victory
Eagles defeat visiting UMBC, 3-0

Freshman Daria Bobko had an outstanding match against UMBC, recording nine kills, six digs, five service aces and five blocks in the Eagle victory.

WASHINGTON -- The American volleyball team kept its winning streak alive at 17-straight matches with a 3-0 non-conference victory over the University of Maryland - Baltimore County on Tuesday at Bender Arena. Scores of the match were 30-26, 30-19 and 30-21 as the Eagles also extended their home winning streak to 14 matches and increased their overall record to 22-2 on the season.

Freshman outside hitter Daria Bobko (Moscow, Russia/S.W. School #783) had an outstanding night for American, registering nine kills, six digs, five service aces, five blocks and a .500 hitting percentage. Sophomore Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) added match-highs of 11 kills and eight digs to secure the Eagle victory.

The Retrievers, who fall to 13-12 on the year, were led by freshman Jocelyn Teoh who matched Kucerkova’s 11 kills to go along with four blocks.

American wraps up its Patriot League regular season at Navy on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles clinched the league’s regular season title, along with the No. 1 seed and hosting responsibilities, of the Patriot League Tournament on Nov. 17-18 with their win over Lehigh on Nov. 3.
