American Volleyball Completes Sweep of Patriot League
Eagles soar past Navy, 3-0, to end league season at 14-0

Sophomore Karla Kucerkova helped American to its sweep of the Patriot League with nine kills and seven digs against Navy.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The American volleyball team completed a dominating sweep of its Patriot League schedule on Friday with a 3-0 win over Navy at Macdonough Hall in Annpolis, Md. The Eagles did not drop a single game to its league opponents all season, winning each match by a 3-0 margin, while wrapping up Patriot League play with a perfect 14-0 mark in their inaugural season in the league.

Scores of the match against the Midshipmen were 30-24, 30-13 and 32-30, as the Eagles extended their overall record to 23-2 and kept their winning streak alive at 18 matches.

Two-time Patriot League Player of the Week Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic) led the American offense with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage while also coming up with seven digs. Senior Eneida Muzhaqi (Elbasan, Albania/Qemal Stafa) also notched nine kills, adding to American’s .315 attack percentage on the night.

American wraps up its regular season on Saturday with a non-conference match against Morgan State at 7:00 p.m. at Bender Arena, where the Eagles are defending a 14-match winning streak.

The Eagles, who clinched the Patriot League regular season title with their 3-0 win at Lehigh on Nov. 3, will prepare to host the 2001 Patriot League Volleyball Tournament at Bender Arena on Nov. 17-18. American, the No. 1 seed, will face off against the No. 4 seed (either Bucknell or Army, depending on this weekend's results) at
12:00 p.m. on Nov. 17 in the first of two semifinal matches.
