American Volleyball Ends Perfect Home Season
Eagles defeat Morgan State, 3-0, extending home win streak to 15

Sophomore Karla Kucerkova set a new career-high against Morgan State with 25 kills.

WASHINGTON -- The American volleyball team wrapped up its regular season at home on Saturday with a 3-0 win over non-conference Morgan State. The victory extended the Eagles winning streak to 19 matches as the Eagles finished the regular season undefeated at Bender Arena with a 15-match home win streak dating back to last season.

Scores of the match against the Lady Bears (17-3) were 32-30, 30-24 and 30-18 as American (24-2) notched a .310 hitting percentage to Morgan State’s .090.

Sophomore Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) set a new career high with 25 kills to go along with a .528 hitting percentage and a match-high 13 digs. Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) also came up big on offense with 11 kills while classmate Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) recorded 44 assists, nine digs, six kills and three service aces.

The Eagles, who clinched the Patriot League regular season title with their 3-0 win at Lehigh on Nov. 3, will prepare to host the 2001 Patriot League Volleyball Tournament at Bender Arena on Nov. 17-18. American, the No. 1 seed and undefeated in league play this season, will face off against the No. 4 seed, either Bucknell or Army, depending on this weekend’s results, at 12:00 p.m. on Nov. 17 in the first of two semifinal matches.
