Nov. 14, 2000

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

The American University Women's Volleyball topped Howard University, 3-0 (15-4, 15-5, 15-13) for their tenth straight win and Coach Barry Goldberg's 300th career win this evening in Bender Arena. The Eagles (26-4, 11-1 CAA) were led by senior Ajola Berisha (Tirana, Albania/SK Tirana) who tallied eight kills on .500 hitting, while freshman Natalie Hand (Keizer, OR/McNary) added four service aces for the Eagles.

The Eagles caused Howard to commit 11 receiving errors and hit .250 on Senior Night in the Eagles' season finale. Tonight's win marked the 300th career victory for the two-time CAA Coach of the Year, Barry Goldberg. He has averaged 25.0 wins per season in his twelve years at the helm of the AU Volleyball program. The Bison (12-19) were led by Denise Corbett's six kills and setter Jessamyne Rice's 12 assists. The Bison hit .065 for the match, but managed 13 points in Game 3 to threaten the Eagles winning ways.

Prohibited from competing in the CAA Women's Volleyball Championships this weekend due to the institution's announcement regarding a change in conferences from the CAA to the Patriot League, the Eagles will have to wait until the November 26, 2000 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament selection show to determine if they will return to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years.

Final Line Score:
