Kucerkova and Szekeylhidi record double-doubles for Eagles

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The American University volleyball team defeated Bucknell 3-1 Friday night at Davis Gym by scores of 30-28, 36-34, 27-30, 30-26.
The third game marked the first regular season Patriot League loss in American University history as the Bison led 27-24 and refused to relinquish the good fortune, hitting .429 to the Eagles' .167.
In the deciding game, AU was behind by a 7-1 margin before a 6-1 run chopped the Bison lead. Keeping pace, the Eagles secured the win courtesy of an attack error by Bucknell.
American junior Karla Kucerkova had 24 kills and 17 digs and senior Judit Szekelyhidi added 17 kills and 15 digs. Erin Allgaier was solid with 10 kills and six digs.
Sophomore Courtney Mulford had 42 assists while Sabrina Vasconcelos had 17 of her 18 assists in the final game.
In Game 2, the Eagles trailed throughout as the Bison brought them to the brink with a 29-26 game-point lead. The Eagles fought back 30-30 and took a 31-30 advantage. Four errors including two attack by AU kept the game intact before Szekelyhidi delivered with an attack from the left side that bounced off the Bucknell blockers' hands and out of bounds.
The Eagles face Colgate Saturday night at 7 p.m.
