Eagles defeat Colgate 3-0 for fourth straight win

HAMILTON, N.Y.
-- The American University improved its Patriot
League unbeaten streak to 18 regular season matches and 20 overall with
a 3-0 win over Colgate University Saturday night by scores of 30-19, 30-21,
30-21.
AU is now 12-6 overall and 4-0 in the Patriot League while the Red Raiders have a 2-14 overall showing and are 1-3 in the Patriot League.
Junior Karla Kucerkova had a game-high 18 kills and seven digs, hitting .700 for the entire match. Sophomores Erin Allgaier and Cathy Fluegeman combined for 15 kills while freshman Cutrina Biddulph was solid with nine kills.
Sophomore setter Courtney Mulford had a game-high 43 assists to go with six kills and four digs.
The Eagles hit a .417 for the match compared with the Red Raiders' .138 as none reached double figures in kills.
In the first game, the Eagles quickly established dominance with a 23-12 advantage that grew to a 30-19 win as they hit .556. The Red Raiders struggled offensively in Game 2, hitting just .097 to AU's .371. American's lead rose from 15-9 to 25-20 in a quick set.
Offensively, the Eagles jumpstarted their speed as the CU defense never really gained any control. Despite a mounting CU comeback, AU led 24-16 before it sealed the victory on a Red Raider attack error.
On slate for American University next weekend is a Friday night match with Lehigh followed by Saturday night's meeting with Lafayette.
