October 25, 2002 | Stats

Cathy Fluegeman and Judit Szekelyhidi teamed up for 18 kills against the Crusaders.

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The American University volleyball team quickly defeated Holy Cross Friday night in a Patriot League match, 3-0, with individual match scores of 30-14, 30-25, 30-18.

The Eagles, now 17-6 overall and 8-0 in the Patriot League, hit .438 as a team with a total of just 11 errors overall.

In Game 1, AU went on a 9-0 run to lead 21-9 at one point as junior Karla Kucerkova had five of her 13 kills while freshman Cutrina Biddulph pumped out four of her 14 kills.

The Crusaders came back strong in the second game after leading 4-0 to start. Picking up the slack, American soon twisted the score around to maintain a safe four-point lead in the final sets.

Jumping out 7-1, AU did not allow a floundering HC offense to get started again. The Eagles led by as many as 13 and held on for the straight set win.

Biddulph led three Eagles with 10 or more kills with 14 as Kucerkova had 13 and Cathy Fleugeman had 10. Courtney Mulford had 27 assists for AU while Sabrina Vasconcelos added 15 assists and eight digs. Kucerkova also had 24 digs for the Eagles and Natalie Hand had 20 digs.

AU returns to action tomorrow night at Army as the Eagles face the Black Knights at 7 p.m.
