Karla Kucerkova tallied a game-high 13 kills en route to her 1,00th career kill.

WASHINGTON-- Spectators and teammates did not have to wait long Friday night at Bender Arena as junior Karla Kucerkova tallied her 1,000 career kill in the second game of the American University volleyball team's 3-0 romp over Colgate.

It marked AU's 11th straight win including 10 over Patriot League foes as the Eagles are now 19-6 overall and 10-0 in PL play. The first to clinch a spot in the Patriot League Championships to be held at Bender Arena Nov. 22-23, American will host Bucknell Saturday night at 7 p.m.

“I haven’t really thought about it much,” said Kucerkova. “But it’s nice to have something to measure up to.”

Kucerkova, who had 994 heading into the match, got out to a hot start with four kills in the first game as AU hit .500. After finding her fifth point to start the second game, the Olomouc, Czech Republic native took a set from sophomore Courtney Mulford on the right side and powered a cross hit into two Raider blockers who watched as the ball dribbled off their hands and onto the court. She would finish with a game-high 13 kills.

"She has improved throughout the year," said AU Head Coach Barry Goldberg. "In games where we have really needed her, she has come through."

Sophomore Cathy Fluegeman set a new career-high of her own, hitting .800 with eight kills on 10 attempts.

The Eagles held court for the majority of the match, hitting .488 while Colgate hit just .101. Mulford was impressive all-around with a game-high 41 assists, four kills, four digs and three service aces. The California native is second in the Patriot League in aces.

In the second game, AU maintained a healthy advantage over CU, leading by as many as seven. Game three was much of the same with the Eagles pressuring the Raider defense with a 19-10 lead. Kucerkova put the game away with the final kill from the right side.

Freshman Cutrina Biddulph and senior Judit Szekelyhidi each chipped in with seven kills. Erin Allgaier was also impressive with six kills. Junior Natalie Hand produced a game-high seven digs.
