Eagles Clinch Regular Season PL Title Outright with 3-0 Win Over Lafayette
Mulford, Fluegeman set career-highs with 14th straight victory

Sophomore Cathy Fluegeman hit a game-high .647 and tied her career-high of 12 kills.

WASHINGTON -- With two more regular season matches to go, the American University volleyball team clinched the Patriot League regular season title Friday night with its 14th straight victory, a 3-0 win over Lafayette College at Bender Arena. Scores of the individual games were 30-17, 30-20 and 30-14.

The win coincides with a crucial 3-1 Lehigh loss to Navy. The Mountain Hawks are now 9-3 and make it impossible for American, with only two league matches left, to tie for the regular season title. LU owns a berth in the Patriot League Championships to be hosted at AU on Nov. 22-23. The Midshipmen maintain a one-game lead over Army for the fourth and final spot in the tournament while Bucknell remains in third.

It was business as usual for American as sophomore Cathy Fluegeman tied a career-high of 12 kills while hitting a game-high .647. Sophomore Courtney Mulford also set a new career-high with eight of the team's 11 service aces.

Junior Karla Kucerkova pumped out 12 kills and added 10 digs and freshman Cutrina Biddulph was strong with eight kills and four block assists.

The Eagles will host Lehigh Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Bender Arena.
