CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
WASHINGTON In front of a weekend crowd of 1,877 the No. 3 Florida volleyball team captured the American Volleyball Classic Title Sunday afternoon at American University's Bender Arena with a 3-0 victory of the hosting Eagles in front of a live audience on Comcast SportsNet. The weekend saw the Gators battle No. 9 Penn State University to a 3-2 victory Friday night, handing the Nittany Lions their first loss of the season. The match followed AU's 3-0 win over Yale in front of another live television audience. In the consolation match on Sunday, the Bulldogs lost to PSU 3-0. Gator Aury Cruz garnered AVBC Classic Tournament MVP honors as American had senior Judit Szekeylhidi and sophomore Courtney Mulford named to the All-Tournament Team. The Nittany Lions were represented by Syndie Nadeau and Cara Smith. Joining teammate Cruz was Jackie Robinson. Comcast announcing was provided by NBC and ESPN broadcaster Chris Marlowe, a former Olympic gold medalist and Angela Rosenquist, a former player at the University of the Pacific.
