Kucerkova, Cornaz lead Eagles past Lady Wolverines in first match at UM-Eastern Shore

WASHINGTON — With a well-rounded cast at hand, the American University volleyball team (2-3) soundly defeated Morris Brown 3-0 (30-9, 30-16, 30-17) in the first match at the 1st Annual Ramada Inn Invitational hosted at University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Karla Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/Brno) had a game-high 13 kills to go with 10 kills while sophomore Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) was impressive with 12 kills.

The Eagles also received key contributions from sophomores Cathy Fluegeman (Muncie, Ind./Burris Laboratory School) and Erin Allgaier (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central). The duo combined for 15 kills. Also playing well was sophomore Courtney Mulford (San Diego, Calif./La Costa Canyon), who tallied 35 assists.

AU will face Wagner at 2 p.m. today and have Coppin St.slated for tomorrow morning before the final rounds are played out.
