No. 12 Badgers Snap Eagles' Winning Streak at Six
Eagles can't hold onto lead over Wisconsin

DURHAM, N.C. — With a hitting percentage of just .101, the American University volleyball team lost its first match in seven tries to No. 12 Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at the Duke Classic by scores of 30-26, 30-20, 30-19.

AU totaled 32 kills compared with the Badgers' 59 while committing 21 hitting errors and six service errors.

While three Wisconsin players reached double-digits in kills, only junior Karla Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/Brno) did for American with 10. Sophomore Courtney Mulford (San Diego, Calif./La Costa Canyon) had 25 assists and five kills for the Eagles.

In the first game, the Eagles (6-4) led 25-23 before the Badgers took advantage of AU errors (Game 1 attack percentage .146) for the 30-26 final. American trailed by as much as nine (22-13) and couldn't find a way to repell the hard-hitting Wisconsin offense. In Game 3, the Eagles and Badgers were tied at 10-10 before AU was outscored by an 11-2 margin for the final.

American University will face No. 18 UC-Santa Barbara at 5 p.m. tonight in the conclusion of the Duke Classic.
