AU Hosts American Volleyball Classic Tournament
Eagles invite No. 3 Florida, No. 9 Penn State and Yale to Bender Arena

WASHINGTON— The American University volleyball team is hosting the American Volleyball Classic Friday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 22 at Bender Arena.

Playing in the largest volleyball tournament in the area with AU is No. 3 Florida, No. 9 Penn State and Ivy League representative Yale University.

The Eagles face the Yale Bull Dogs tonight at 7 p.m. in the opener and the Gators and Nittany Lions play each other 30 minutes after the first match's conclusion.

On Sunday, the consolation match is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. followed by the championship match at 2 p.m.

"We're very excited to be hosting such a quality tournament," said AU Head Coach Barry Goldberg.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league championships in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
