Record First Win at American Volleyball Classic September 20, 2002 | Stats
WASHINGTON Senior Judit Szekelyhidi had all the right moves in crucial points for the American University volleyball team Friday night at Bender Arena as the Eagles opened The American Volleyball Classic with a resounding 3-0 win over Yale by scores of 30-19, 30-22, 30-24. Szekelyhidi, a middle blocker, produced 14 kills and came up with four digs for AU as sophomore setter Courtney Mulford directed the offense with a game-high 36 assists to go with 10 digs. The Eagles hit .348 for the match while the Bulldogs accumulated an attack percentage of .116. American had seven service aces by 12 service erros while Yale recorded four service aces and seven errors. AU junior outside hitter Karla Kucerkova had nine kills, four assists and five digs in a solid all-around effort. Freshman Cutrina Biddulph and sophomore Cathy Fluegeman each chipped in with six kills each. For the Bulldogs, Dana Loberg and Taryn Gallup had 10 kills each and Jacqueline Becker had 26 assists. The Eagles will face either No. 3 Florida or No. 9 Penn State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the championship match. Match Summary
